Incidentally, LiveJournal's PicoWriMo is kicking off a "mini" July round in two days.

Pico, if you didn't know, is a "write stuff in a month" comm. It usually runs in November. It is unlike NaNo in that you set your own goal - 500 words, 50 words, "a sentence a day", "SOMETHING"... whatever. Write more than you would have otherwise: You Win. XD

The reason I love it particularly is under the cut )

I'm hoping to work mainly on polishing and rewriting my MaNo novel, as well as finishing off the other stuff I have in progress (such as the SG-1!Friendathon story that received a sudden and unexpected Piece Of Research the other day in the form of my first motorcycle ride... *happyface*)

(Personal goal: stop meandering. I got in the habit during MaNo, and should now get out again.)

1: ONOES! Peter Falk and "Gentleman" Gene Colan both just died. O_O 2011, this is getting ridiculous. :-(

2: I'm taking my mum to see the Monkees LIVE IN CONCERT next week. She was one of the original horde of Davy Jones fangirls in the '60s, and I'm a big fan myself, so. (We're bringing earplugs, because I for one am going to turn into SUCH A SQUEEING FANGIRL! *g*)

(Note to 2011: These two things had DANG WELL BETTER remain unrelated in any and all possible ways. Y/Y?)
curuchamion: TARDIS in a sunny field (sunny TARDIS field)
I know I don't have a whole lot of 'Gate writers on my flist/dwircle (good grief that's a weird word), but I'm mentioning this anyway:

LJ's sg1friendathon i.e. the Stargate SG-1 Friendship Genficathon (whew *g*) now has 172 prompts up for claiming in their prompt post right here.

Prompts are first-come-first-served, and they're going fairly fast (I snaffled "Sam/Bra'tac friendship, gender roles", which ought to be interesting at least); stories are due August 1, word minimum is 1000. C'mon in, the water's fine! ;-)

...yes, I signed up for a ficathon with a thousand-word minimum. Me, who didn't even hit my 300-word goal for Clocket's help_haiti piece. O_O I guess winning MaNo has pickled my brain a bit. ;-)

*needs to do a Bra'tac watchathon* *although it's really Sam who's kicking my tail atm*

(Yes, I am working on everything else I need to be working on too! *pets flist* lol)

Incidentally, if anyone has a good bit of spare money to donate to disaster relief and would like to snipe me for the fic-writing attentions of the excellent [personal profile] settiai on LiveJournal's HelpTheSouth fandom auction... her offering thread is right here and the bidding stands at $60 US. Minimum fic length is 3000 words, fandoms are many and various.

The only caveat is that I am stalking her thread regularly, have a fair amount of charity-earmarked money to spare, and will do my best to snipe you back. ;-) However, it's for a good cause! Bidding closes on Wednesday, May 25.

Calling all Whovians, Wholigans, and other fans of Doctor Who! ;-) Calufrax, the Doctor Who rec-a-day(-ish) comm on LiveJournal (affiliated with the A Teaspoon and an Open Mind archive), is running out of reccers!

I mean it. They're so short on signed-up reccers that the mod's decided to take the comm to an every-other-week status, just to postpone the day when there is NOBODY LEFT. This is a horrible fate for a rec-a-day comm, so I am asking y'all to do two things. Please.

1: Even if you can't sign up to rec, for whatever reason - if you like reading Who fic, or if you have Doctor Who fans on your flist, please signal-boost this call for help all you can! You never know who (I amuse myself) will respond.

2: If you possibly can, sign up to rec for a week. It doesn't take much effort: but there are a few steps involved )

(That last item isn't required, but everyone does it anyway. *g*)

In about an hour and a half - at midnight GMT (aka 5pm Pacific Daylight Time or 8pm Eastern Daylight Time) - the seventeenth monthly round of Fic_Rush will begin!

Fic_rush is a 48-hour writing marathon. (Obviously, no one's there the whole time!) You can work on anything you want, WIP or not, fanfic or not. We all drop in and out as we please, chatter in the hourly posts on fic_rush_48 - about our writing, lack of writing, ninja penguins, or whatnot - cheer each other on, commiserate, and write lots of fic!

(Honest. Despite DDoS attacks and the usual 'rush shenanigans, I finished and published five stories on April 9th and 10th thanks to Fic_rush. It is An Invaluable Resource.)

Some of my friends from ds9_rewatch may remember my mentioning a writing comm with motorcycle space pirates a while ago in chat? THIS IS THAT COMM, and it is truly epic. I encourage everyone reading this to at least drop in to fic_rush_48 and browse the back chatter posts a bit before you say no! :-)

* Re: DS9_rewatch - I love that I have just asked someone, quite sincerely, "In what way is the emu demeaning? I'm curious." OH TREK. (FTR, it's demeaning because all Odo gets to do this week is spoiler cut ) But he's so darn cute doing it that I personally will save my ranting-at-writers for Next Week aka "The Forsaken".)

Also, EMUS. Seriously, rewatch chat is awesomeness of awesomeful. :D

* William Campbell just died. Trekkies on my flist probably know him as Captain Koloth (one of the first three Klingon captains from TOS, who also made guest appearances on DS9 and, I think, TNG; he appeared in "The Trouble with Tribbles") and Trelane (from "Squire of Gothos", a proto-Q character).

* Re: MaNoWriMo - my wordcount right now is 3453 words. In something like nineteen hours. (I started on Greenwich time, but it's fair because I will also finish on Greenwich time. If I finish.) The thing that scares me the most right now about this whole insane plan? I did the math for May being a 31-day month, and it knocks 54 words off every day's goal.

In other words, I have committed to write 54x30 words on the same story every day of this month. I AM TRULY INSANE. But optimistic! Sort of. ;-)
So apparently this year Remix_Redux have taken a page from Yuletide's book and are running a Remix Madness challenge. It's a weekend thing, through Monday evening, whence the "madness" part of it.

There are no qualification requirements, no nothing - if you want your stuff (possibly) remixed, you just comment to the linked post with your name, fic-list link, and any safe stories or former remixes. If you want to remix, you have to sign up to be remixed as well, and of course (I'm guessing) standard Remix rules about "don't break up pairings" and such still apply. But there's no minimum length for a remix! :D

I've signed up, of course. Anything on my AO3 except "Last Man Standing" and "Fine Print (The Connections Remix)" is fair game. But there aren't a lot of my friends signed up to be remixed... want to change that? *please* ;-)
So there is on Dreamwidth, as part of the "Three Weeks for Dreamwidth" event (a yearly thing wherein people post awesome stuff and keep it exclusive to Dwth for three weeks, intended to boost activity on the site), a Friendship Fic Comment!fic Fest.

Being, as I am, a gen girl whose favorite thing in the world is friendship fic, I am scattering prompts all over this fest and encouraging all my friends to do the same. And also fill them, lol. (You don't even need a Dwth account - you can comment with your LJ OpenID - although if you post a fill, you'll have to not xpost to your LJ for three weeks.) I shall also be trying to scatter fills if I can, so go over and put up some prompts in our shared fandoms so I have something to work with! ;-)

I've already put up an Odo-Quark prompt and am just working on a Jack-Teal'c one...
1: If any of my friends on here (that I'm not already friended to on Dwth) have Dreamwidth accounts, could you please let me know? Especially if your username isn't the same. (I'm curuchamion over there too. Sometimes, it's nice having a made-up name.)

1b: Can anyone tell me where are some active Dreamwidth comms in any of my fandoms? It doesn't seem a very active, discussion-y community place, if I'm making any sense. Is that just because comms don't import and crosspost in the same way, so they have to be on one or the other platform?

2: I suppose I'm going to import my journal to Dwth and start crossposting from there, for redundancy's sake. Here's hoping it goes better than last time. I just wish I didn't have to check two flists! (I refuse to use the "circle/reading list" terminology; y'all are on here because you're my friends. *g*)

3: I've got a Dreamwidth invite code if anyone wants one - first come, first served. ETA: snaffled!
One more hour till this month's [livejournal.com profile] fic_rush starts! I am hanging out in the 24-hour computer lab at uni, watching my Greenwich-synced computer clock and doing "research" (aka watching the new disc of The Middleman * which just arrived from Netflix. Netflix is the awesome.)

If you are not familiar with fic_rush - though I don't know why you wouldn't be, since I natter about it on a fairly regular basis - it is a two-day fanficcing marathon, held once a month on a weekend. Obviously no one person spends 48 straight hours writing, but there are hourly posts in which to chat, and we all pop in and out as we please. Lately there have been glowsticks.

(Not to mention the alien fish, singing Sontarans, [livejournal.com profile] lost_spook's wandering seaside penguins, and other strange creatures that infest our comment!fic. (Whoops, speaking of which, I have to default-ify my alien fish icon! *skedaddles*)

* Yes, it has done things to my syntax, although actually nobody but me ever notices and I won't even notice if I ever come back and read this post again. *g*
Not that I post that often anyway... but I'm so zonked I'm taking the rest of the year off from existence, except for Christmas morning. Just making it a bit official. ;-) I have hot chocolate, blankets, and a two-foot-tall stack of Terry Pratchett novels from the library (though sadly I forgot to raid the Andre Norton shelves while I was at it), so that's all good.

Beth - good luck settling in. Oh, and thanks again for the icons. *g* Clocket - your story needs another rewrite, and my laptop's in the shop, but if at all possible you should have help_haiti fic in your fandom_stocking on Epiphany. Prim, and all the other people whose birthdays I am apparently missing - happy birthday!

And a meme.

[livejournal.com profile] fandom_stocking's 2010 stocking post is up!

If you missed my earlier post about this, the linked post and the comm info explain most of it. One point that's not made as clear as I'd like is that the whole thing is completely without obligation - you can sign up for a stocking even if you have no time to put anything (even random good wishes) in anyone else's stocking. So there are no excuses! ;-)

The point of all which is: pull together a list of your fannish likes and dislikes (if you've been at all touched by the Yuletide insanity, I suspect you have one of these), go over to fandom_stocking and post it! Then, once stockings are posted, you can either go through and put things in everyone else's... or not. And just sit back and wait for Old Christmas Day to roll around!
This is a bit of a random PSA: [livejournal.com profile] fandom_stocking is getting ready to go again!

I expect there are people on my flist who haven't heard of this comm - I hadn't, till [livejournal.com profile] eponymous_rose started nattering about it last year - so here are the basics:

long post can be shortened a bit... )

TL;DR: make list of fannish likes and dislikes, put list in appropriate place, get pile of lovely happy-making comments on January 6. How awesome is that?

One thing I'd like to clarify, by way of encouraging y'all to sign up for stockings: this DOES NOT HAVE to be reciprocal. You are not required to leave anything in anyone else's stocking just because you signed up to have a stocking. Of course, we're all nice people who would like to scatter happiness around us ;-) but it's not something you have to stress over, "Eek, do I have the time to commit to this?" You can do as little or as much as you have time for.

So, anyway. Go take a look at the comm ([livejournal.com profile] fandom_stocking, I link it again) and start getting your fandom lists ready. *mock-stern face* I want an flist full of "Oh btw here is my fandom_stocking link!" come December! ;-)

***************

In other news, I am having way too much fun with my new Q icons, now that I finally got around to uploading some of them. Thank you, [livejournal.com profile] lolmac Beth!
I say - anyone on my flist who doesn't already know this: [livejournal.com profile] fic_rush is going splendidly. Come over to [livejournal.com profile] fic_rush_48 and write with us! (Or just distract us with random chatter. That's what the hourly posts are actually for, after all... *g*)
Probably most people on my flist who would be interested in this already know about it, but I thought I'd mention it anyway:

There is a brand-new Man from UNCLE comm specifically for picture squee. It's called [livejournal.com profile] mfu_yumdaily. Anyone can post any UNCLE-related picture at any time, including any shot of DMc or RV (and a good many of us already have)... or if you're looking for a specific image, you can do a search post!

Even if you're not familiar with the show - those are two very handsome guys right there. So take a look, if you please, and happy drooling! ;-)

Eeks!

I totally forgot about Round 8 of [livejournal.com profile] fic_rush starting tonight!

For those ficcers on my flist who haven't yet discovered the insanity awesomeness that is Fic_Rush... it is "the two-day fic writing challenge". Writers from all sorts of fandoms get together once a month and write as much as they can, on anything they want - WIPs, new, or both - and cheer each other on in the hourly posts on [livejournal.com profile] fic_rush_48. You don't have to be there for the whole thing; just drop in when you can, tell us what you're working on, and join the fun!

(No, I have no idea what I'm writing yet. *g*)
[livejournal.com profile] eponymous_rose's recent post about Remix_Redux signups reminded me that I also have a remix challenge to post about. Although Azdak and Lothithil are already participating, and I'm not sure who-all-else on my flist writes MFU fic...

Anyway. *koff* Is this thing on? ;-)

Announcing the first-ever [livejournal.com profile] mfuwss Exhibition Remix Challenge!

The rules and FAQs are quite clear and very simple: if you want to be remixed, throw 1-3 of your fics (or your whole oeuvre - some of us have!) into the Fic Pot. If you want to remix, poke through the Fic Pot and grab anything you like. You don't have to do both, there's no claiming, no minimum word count, zilch!

According to the FAQ, "signups never really close"; remixes are due June 1, 2010. If you've ever wanted to remix any of my stories, or - what's much more likely - any of [livejournal.com profile] azdak's, [livejournal.com profile] leethet's or [livejournal.com profile] xparrot's... here's your chance! C'mon, where else will you find a remix challenge with no qualification requirements? ;-)

(Also, as you can see, we could use more fic in the pot. *g* Chuck something in, won't you?)
The "when to have Round 6" poll is up at [livejournal.com profile] fic_rush!

For those who came in late, Fic_Rush is... like NaNoWriMo, only sane. Write anything you want, as much as you can, over the course of 48 hours, and chat in the hourly posts at [livejournal.com profile] fic_rush_48 with other people who are doing the same thing. Come in late, leave early, pop in and out, whatever - just have fun and make fic.

The post I linkied above is the poll for deciding when to have the March round. If this sounds like something you'd like to do, go over there and vote for the weekends you have (relatively) free!

(C'mon. Join us. It's a heck of a lot of fun!)
Have you ever heard of [livejournal.com profile] fic_rush ?

I hadn't, until I stumbled across [livejournal.com profile] dbskyler 's journal. It's a little-known and very small comm, but I think it deserves to be much better known.

Fic Rush is "the two-day fic marathon"; during the 48 hours of a specific weekend, you write as much as you can on whatever you want - any fandom, WIPs or new, no requirements! (No, you don't have to spend the whole 48 hours writing, either!) Every hour of those 48, in the secondary comm [livejournal.com profile] fic_rush_48 , one of the mods makes a check-in post where all the participating members can chat in the comments. Here's the Fic Rush Intro/FAQ post, which explains everything much more clearly.

I'm posting here because Fic Rush had apparently died of inactivity till I randomly stumbled across it and asked "Hey, is this thing still alive?" Seems it was just in stasis... there's now a voting post up to decide which weekend to hold Round 4.

So if this sounds like something you'd like to do, go join the comm, vote, and help keep Fic Rush alive! ;-)
