curuchamion: First Doctor inside a Dalek, from The Space Museum (One in a Dalek)
Okay. So the ever-awesome InfiniteViking (I would link your journal, honest, but I haven't gotten used to the way crossposting b0rks up all my LJ code) has this meme that is the Drabbles IN SPAAAAACE!!! meme.

1: Get a title from a random title generator. (I used this one, but Google has a wide selection.)
2: Add "IN SPAAAACE!!!" to the end.
3: Write a drabble!

So. Well. Um. This is in my X-UNIT crossover 'verse wherein the Brig founded the X-Men. And... I cannot explain it at all. O_O

Title: Vortex of Musings IN SPAAAACE!!!
Summary: Uh. Pointless humor teamfluff piece?
Notes: 153 words. Kitty Pryde, Liz Shaw, the Brig, Wolverine, and cameos by Nightcrawler and Colossus. (I absolutely could not squeeze Storm in, but she is part of the team in this 'verse.)

Lasciate ogni speranza, voi ch'entrate, because this is DUMB )
So... um, a while ago (last August, good grief), LJ's DW_straybunnies comm ran a "fem!Doctor regenerates into a male" challenge. Me being me, I wrote a non-serious response based entirely on the fem!Doctor costume designs I'd been working on for a while (since I can't draw and have no time to sew), plus a few I had to dream up for the occasion.

I really, really wish I could draw. ;-)

Title: Clothes Make the Man
Summary: The Doctor has always been female. UNTIL NOW.
Notes: Gen, rated G. 511 words. Eleventh Doctor.

What do male humans wear, anyway? )
Okay, this is an odd bit of MFU dark!fic I wrote a while back. It's sort of a "Schrodinger's ficlet", in that I could waffle back and forth forever on whether it's any good... I hate those, because the only way to collapse the function is to post. o_O

Title: Useful [I am so imaginative, yeah? lol]
Summary: Illya is a supremely useful partner.
Notes: Gen, rated G. 200 words. Warning for dark!Napoleon.

Here goes, then )
Okay... if y'all didn't already know (as you may well not - I've been making quite a few new friends), this weekend is LJ's fic_rush, a 48-hour fanfic writing marathon held once a month. Obviously nobody stays for the whole 48 hours (!!) - we just all drop in and out as we please, chatter with our fellow writers in the hourly posts at fic_rush_48, and write whatever we want. (It doesn't even have to be fiction: I spent a good many 'rushes working on college application essays last summer.)

Anyway! You are all cordially invited to come over and write with us, if you can get in past the Russian Mafia's dastardly attempts to shut us down. C'mon, it's a lot of fun.

And - the point of this post - we have a long-standing tradition of crackfic in the later hours of the 'rush. This is the first time I've contributed, and I'm quite proud of myself. ;-)

Title: Kicking AUs, Taking Names
Summary: In which the motorcycle space pirates take on the Russian Mafia.
Notes: 654 words. Gen, rated G. Massive multi-fandom canon!AU crossover; I'll be happy to explain stuff in comments if anybody wants.

Mafia and motorcycles under the cut! )
(I have completely given up on having my titles make sense.)

Um, this one... started as a Five Things To Do Instead Of Fixing The TARDIS. (Three found one of Jamie's half-finished socks in the wardrobe room and decided to learn how to knit. Yes, of course Jamie knit his own socks - not least because Frazier Hines has fantastic hands. Shusht. *g*) Then stuff happened.

Anyway.

Title: Madame Nostradamus, I Presume
Summary: This is a Third Doctor "how the Scarf got into the wardrobe room" story. Sort of.
Notes: 363 words. Gen, rated G. Season 10-11 hiatus of Classic Who.

Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious! )
curuchamion: First Doctor inside a Dalek, from The Space Museum (One in a Dalek)
So! *insert long explanation involving [personal profile] clocketpatch's [community profile] help_haiti donation and [community profile] fandom_stocking here*

Short version? Last January I sat down at a computer and determined I would not get up again till I'd written the Doctor Who/X-Men crossover or "mashup" that ClocketPatch had requested from me (and made a donation for) the previous January. This is what happened.

Title: United Nations Mutant Taskforce
Summary: In which the Brigadier founds the X-Men. Basically.
Notes: ~300 words. Gen, rated G. There ought to be more of this, but I make no promises.

Underneath )
curuchamion: Snoopy dressed as Sherlock Holmes (Snoopy Holmes)
Some months ago, I did one of those memes where you ask people for writing prompts. (Yes, I know... someday I shall either learn not to do that or start actually writing things in a timely manner.) Anyway, [personal profile] eponymous_rose asked me for Legend fic using the prompt "mundane".

This is what happened. At least, it's one of the things that happened. erose (sorry - I'm learning continuously compounded interest in math class *g*) has already seen it, but I figured I might as well put it up publicly.

Title: Mundane
Summary: "Janos, do you ever wonder what normal people do on a Saturday night?"
Notes: 200-ish words. Gen, rated G.

Right now, it's delightfully useless )
Okay, here goes. I'm not going to say much in defence of this, except it was written a while back when I was depressed and (as usual) I don't really know if it's much good.

Title: To Rust Unburnished
Summary: Stargate SG-1, Tin Man ep tag. Robo!Jack muses on what he's lost.
Notes: Gen, rated PG for Jackish language. 50 words. Title from Tennyson's Ulysses, which is An Awesome Poem.

How dull is it to pause, to make an end, to rust unburnished, not to shine in use! As though to breathe were life! )
So... [livejournal.com profile] dw_straybunnies had a special Brig!fic challenge this month, for obvious reasons. The challenge was "The Brigadier in other eras, or other eras with the Brigadier"; Two, Five, Six, Eight and/or their companions were preferred, since they seldom show up with the Brig in fic (though as usual in a Straybunnies challenge, pretty much anything was allowed).

I'm not even sure what happened, but this is what I wrote.

Title: Things That Did Not Happen in 2011
Stats: 300-ish words. Gen; worksafe (hey, it's me). Nine, Jamie, Zoe.
Warnings: Major character death. This is Brig!funeral fic, and not the nice saccharine sort I usually prefer.

Credits: Inspired by [livejournal.com profile] calapine's excellent "School Reunion" tag His Story, quoted herein, and by something [livejournal.com profile] lost_spook said and something Rusty did.

Also lost_spook made me a gorgeous banner for it, which is under the cut because this header is Long Enough Already.

battling space thuggery, 1968-2011 )
Yoinked from [livejournal.com profile] lost_spook.

Give me a story of mine and an alternate set of characters: protagonists, antagonists, or bit-players. I'll give you at least a hundred words of a scene that could have turned out differently.

For clarity - the meme seems to mean 100 actual words of fic, but that isn't likely to happen from me at the moment. I will, however, make my best effort to describe for you in 100 words or more how the situation would play out with your alternate characters.

My fics are all linked in my master fic list in a stickypost on my journal, which I'm too absurdly lazy to link at the moment (I'm trying to watch DS9 and knit a cabled sweater at the same time as posting. Don't even ask, because IDEK. *shakes head*)
Okay, so various people on my flist have been applying the Pirate Translator to their fanfic in honor of Talk Like a Pirate Day. It's actually tomorrow here by now, but... eh, why not.

The pirate-ized version of One More Time is under the cut.

Here it is... )

I'm also testing out LJ crossposting here. (I do find it vastly amusing that in fleeing crossposting from LJ we have all wound up crossposting to it. *g*)
I have a paper due on Friday.

I appear to write better nonfiction when I am taking fiction breaks when I get stuck.

I seem to be completely blocked on all my current plot bunnies.

Thus... ficlet project! :D

If you have no idea what that is - it's been going round my flist recently. Basically: First person to comment on this post gets to request a ficlet. One fandom, one or two characters and a prompt, on the understanding that I may do anything I like in the way of ignoring said characters/prompts as long as I stay within the fandom. I write said ficlet, post it, and the first person to comment on that post may then request a ficlet. (If you've already had one, please step back and let others have their turn.)

The idea is, it's a way to get myself writing in small spurts and start clearing the channel, so to speak. Quality not guaranteed, but I will try to post a ficlet every day or two, for as long as I want to go on. I'll try to warn when I'm starting to run down.

Fandoms: Doctor Who (Three, Four, Nine, or Eleven eras); Man from UNCLE; MacGate (you take what you get); Legend; X-Men (Wolverine-centric only); Star Trek TOS (I'm a Bones girl primarily, but willing to try to write any main character, as long as you don't care what I do to them). No ship, no slash, and I disclaim responsibility for possible probable crack, angst, or meta.

Let the good times roll! ;-)
So my very first published fanfic, Velocizompire Apocalypse, has apparently been nominated for the First Annual Gatefic Awards.

(No, I don't know for sure who nominated it... but I'd like to say "thank you" here, in the reasonably well-founded suspicion that the nominator will see the thanks. Would you anyone like to confirm or deny complicity, btw? *wink*)

Here's the point of this post: VZA is only posted on FFnet. I've recently been seeing some rumors about FFnet being even more evil than usual. Therefore I'd like to put VZA on Archive Of Our Own (that being apparently the most reliable and reputable archiving location) so I can send the awards team the new link when I confirm.

I am not on AO3. Does anyone seeing this have a spare AO3 invite code, or know of a place I could find one? I have till Sept 10 to confirm my nomination, so I'm in a tad bit of a hurry. I will send virtual cookies! ;-)

Thank you all very much for being my flist! :D *hugs you all*
So I ganked this from [livejournal.com profile] eponymous_rose, who made it up a few years back. I'm reading through her archives, because I'm bored and apparently Whovians all have fascinating LJ archives. ;-)

Multi-Fandom Fanfiction Meme (You had me at "multi-fandom". *g*)

The instructions )

WELL! That was interesting... I find that I can't write a Sapphire & Steel half-drabble on a Robert W. Service prompt. It just won't. But here are the other four. I am deliberately not thinking about whether they are any good; half-drabbles aren't long enough for me to form a complete thought anyway.

Doctor Who )

Legend )

Man from UNCLE )

Stargate SG-1 )
So [livejournal.com profile] stunt_muppet was wondering on her journal how other people manage to write such little short fics - a whole story in 400 words or some such. She asked, "Short-fic-writers on my flist, how exactly do you do it? How do you find the perfect small slice of a scene to write about? How do you condense an idea into such a small space?"

Well, in a classic example of "the grass is greener", I've always wondered how other people can write so much in one story that ficathons with minimum requirements of 1,000 or 5,000 or 10,000 words are common! So I offered to do a ramble/analysis post about how my fics are so short. Here it is.

I have no trouble cranking out the words in non-fiction, of course, so they are under here. )

LOL, now I find myself wanting to remix "Well, That's Just Ducky" and see if I could make it into a longfic! *g*
Here's my entry for the [livejournal.com profile] mfuwss Exhibition Remix Challenge! It's actually not due till June 1, but I'm putting it up today so I'll just have to link it there on Tuesday. (This looks like being a busy week.)

Title: Fine Print (The Connections Remix)
Summary: Napoleon gets a wedding invitation from an old flame.
Notes: Gen, 455 words. Remix of "Fine Print" by [livejournal.com profile] theladyrose, located here on FFnet and here on network_command. Rated G.

Story under here... )
... but I'm really starting to wonder. The other night after I figured out (part of) the plot on this MacGyver/MFU story, our basement flooded; now that I've actually got some tentative dialogue down, the freezer died. (Well, hopefully temporarily - but it still means another Large Panic rearranging stuff and, you got it, MacGyvering things.)

So, being rather tired (understatement) and at a bit of an odd angle to reality right now, I'm wondering if this sort of thing happens to other MacGyver writers? (All two of you, yeah. *g*) Or is it just me?

*sigh*

WIPs Meme

When you see this, post a snippet from each of your works in progress.

Not really ganked from anybody... I just felt like doing it. Got a bit of startosis going on lately. (Not startitis - that would be inflammation from starting too much! *g*) Of course, there is no guarantee that any of these fics will ever be finished or published.

1) "Hmmm... I don't think I've ever autopsied a bitten-off head. Certainly not bitten off by a human being, at any rate!"

2) "...and since they took your memories you've been thinkin' that your fun is all through now,
But you can come an' drive with me 'cause we got a lotta things to do now,
And we'll have fun fun fun till the Brigadier takes Bessie away!"

3) Waverly - still in tweeds, but wearing a rubber Frankenstein mask as a concession to the festivities - was keeping a stern eye on the punch bowl. This had been standard procedure since the year when five different people had spiked the punch without prior consultation; nobody really wanted a repeat of that year's drunken singing contest, nor of the spectacular explosion in the lab the next day. (Illya had claimed he'd been testing the leftovers for possible use against Thrush, but the general consensus was that he'd just wanted to see what would happen when he tossed in a lit match.)

4) The cat gave the receptionist a dirty look, padded over to the intercom, and pawed the button firmly. "Meeoowww," it announced.

5) [This one hasn't any snippetable bits written just yet, but Illya seems to have sprained his ankle during a chase scene. In the Minnesota woods. *smirk*]
Writer's Meme: Post a list of your top five favorite fics you've written, regardless of fandom or the reason you love them. This isn't about the BEST things you've written, but what you LOVE most. Snagged from [livejournal.com profile] primsong.

Agh, I can only pick five?! *whittles list ruthlessly*

*whittles more*

Okay, got it!

1: Venom Our Name Is. This is my only published piece featuring the Spider-Man villain Venom - I was working on an alternate origin story, because the character has such amazing potential if he's not tied down to being Complex Evil just so Spidey can be Morally Conflicted, and this is the tag.

I love it because it's adorable (if I say so myself) and because I got my two biggest compliments ever on it. One was "This actually makes me care about Venom a little" - which is exactly what I set out to do. The other referred to my note at the end thanking, among other people, Adam-Troy Castro for inspiration; it talked a bit about how cool he is, then said "You can tell who his fans are, and I see that a little bit in this." *dies of the awesome all over again*

2: The Hitchhiker's Guide to MacGyver was my first, and I still think my best, utter crackfic. It's the story people keep favoriting, almost two years after I wrote it, and the one that inadvertently started me on the long road to Wholigan-ness. (I have no idea why I was even reading Douglas Adams in the first place, but one of my reviewers mentioned his work on Who, and I began cautiously investigating... slippery slope, that. *big grin*)

3: Restless, my very first LJ fic and my second MFU piece, is still one of my favorites. I'm still just beginning to learn how to evoke emotions with sensory description, but I think I did well here.

4: Liaison Poetique, of course, was my birthday gift to my flist last year. It was originally inspired by my discovery that Ai, lauriƫ lantar lassi surinen sounds really, really good in a Russian accent. *g*

(Well, it does. It'd sound even better with our David reciting it, instead of my half-baked impersonation, but there is not a recording.)

5: And In a Strange Land is my take on the oft-repeated "newbie!Illya makes a friend" story. Like my other entries on this list, it's short and adorable and a little bit different. ;-)

And that's five! There's also my remix-challenge fic coming up next week, which I'm rather glad isn't published yet... I had a hard enough time whittling this list down as it is! ♥
I really don't know if this is any good, but I think it's as good as it's going to get. Anyway, I need to get it off my mind and into the fresh air - is that a mixed metaphor? o.O

Title suggestions welcome.

Title: (no title)
Summary: mildly angsty "Say UNCLE Affair" tagfic.
Notes: Gen, double drabble. Makes a lot more sense if you've seen the ep. (Hulu will start charging for it on May 15 2010, so get over there now if you haven't!)

Ninja!Ducky and General Solo under the cut... )
