From Dwth's
fannish5 comm, one of those random memeish question-posty things:
Name your 5 favorite fictional marriages.
On finding that very few people get married in my fandoms, I change it to marriages and couples who ought to have got married (or, in one case, arguably are married by some definition)... and I'm still astonished that I could come up with five. ;-)
1: Odo/Lwaxana Troi. This is... it puzzles me muchly, because (as ds9_rewatch will soon find out) I rant against "The Forsaken". A lot. And the best part of "Fascination" is the Quark/Keiko crack!ship. QUARK/KEIKO. ♥ *lol* But having gotten to "Fascination" in my watch-the-first-time, I decided to skip ahead to "The Muse" and finish off the arc - and found myself a hardcore Odo/Lwaxana 'shipper. O_O
(I have no idea how I'm going to react to canon Odo/Kira at this point. None. None at all. My mind boggles, because I'm normally the most canon-following nitpicky little beta you could imagine - the sort of person who can be thrown out of a story by the assertion that Illya has a short torso or doesn't wear cufflinks, or that Jack O'Neill's shoes are size twelve. 'Shipping a non-canon pairing at all is a New Experience for me.)
(But seriously! That scene in his quarters where they were playing hide-and-seek and he LAUGHED. He laughed because he was having fun. SHE IS SO GOOD FOR HIM, at least in that ep, and he is extra adorable around her, and I want more of that awesomeness! *still puzzled*)
2: Amy/Rory. Another one where they actually get married! At first I was not sure about this, because it seemed like it'd turn into another Rose/Mickey thing - devoted and smart but human boyfriend dangling after a nitwitted girl who has eyes only for the Doctor, you know what I mean. But, well... even though I don't always agree with Moffat's writing (see: Sherlock), he's at his best with a 'Shippy Ending, and he made Amy/Rory work. PANDORICA. LONE CENTURION. The boy who waited, the girl who waited. Rory Pond: it really does work that way, this time.
3: Doctor/TARDIS. Of course. My OTP, this one is, and I am very happy that Moffat has canonified it. (I shall be less happy if River Song turns out to be a personification of the TARDIS, because I don't particularly like River - but if there's anybody you can call "The Doctor's Wife", it's the TARDIS. *TARDIS!love*)
Also I have to babble about the SFnarg ending, because... you know, I cannot communicate why I love that so much. OLD, NEW, BORROWED, BLUE, and none of it was forced or dragged in by the heels in any way! It's just us, the fans, who've been saying it all for forty-odd years - that she's old and new at the same time because she travels in time, that she was "borrowed" rather than stolen - and she's always been blue. And Moffat took that and... made us see it. That's what good writing is for, it's the opposite of refraction; it pulls together the scattered points of light into a coherent image that was there all along, we just couldn't see it. EPICNESS OF AWESOME.
(Told you I get babbly about that. *g*)
4: Logan/Ororo Munro aka Wolverine/Storm. This is another non-canon one, actually, since she went and married T'Challa - but they still have the most epic friendship EVAR, and that's saying a bit, because if you had to track Logan's character development over the last good grief, only 35 years? in a few words, you'd have to do it by the names of his female friends. Phoenix, Storm, Shadowcat, Jubilee, Rogue... sorry, I'm probably boring most of my flist. (I should write more Wolvie!fic, though. I still have his voice, somewhere back in here. *rummages in head* Claremont!canon re-read, coming up!)
Besides, when she got her back broken that time, he quit the X-Men to become her caregiver/physical therapist. Which... tells you a lot about my take on 'shipping, yeah, ;-) but also tells you a lot about the pair of them, especially if you know Logan's "loner" shtick.
5: Mirror!Middleman/Mirror!Lacey. Actually, I want a whole spinoff series where they and Evil!Noser (okay, he's not actually evil, but EVIL!NOSER) fight crime with steampunk awesome. But I also think they work so much better as a pairing than proper!verse Middleman/Lacey... they are AWESOME together. Middleman fandom needs more mirrorverse fic. (Needs more fic, period - but is there even any mirrorverse fic at all?)
(I can't write Middleman fic. Well, okay, mirror!MM and mirror!Lacey turned up in "Kicking AUs", so obviously I want to write them... but there's nothing specific beyond WANT MOAR NAO KTHX. Nothing I could jot down and snippet. *sigh*)
And that's five, and I'm going to bed. Wow. Shouldn't have stayed up this late. But I've been meaning to babble about some of this for a while.
ETA: and apparently I totally forgot Han/Leia and Sarek/Amanda. *headslap* And now I am going to bed.
